Google Gemini App Now Plays Audio Overviews Natively

Google has made a useful update to its Gemini mobile app. Earlier, users could create Audio Overviews in the app, but they had to visit the Gemini website to play them. Now, that has changed. Google has added a new media player directly in the app, making it easier to listen to AI-generated audio files.

This update helps users play, pause, and even download the Audio Overview files inside the app. The player has all the basic features—play/pause button, a bar to move forward or backward, and 10-second rewind/skip buttons. It also allows users to change the speed of the voice, from 0.5x (slower) to 2x (faster), depending on what they prefer.

The Audio Overview feature was first launched in Google’s NotebookLM. Later, it came to the Gemini app, allowing users to upload files and generate podcast-style conversations. These conversations are created by two AI hosts—a male and a female—who talk naturally about the topic. They even react and give extra information that is pulled from the Internet.

Before this update, Gemini users could make the Audio Overview but couldn’t listen to it within the app. Now, with the inline media player, this limitation is gone. Users can listen directly in the app and also download the audio file if they want to play it using another app.

The feature is available to all Gemini users across the world, including those using the free version. It usually takes a few minutes to generate the audio, depending on how long the text or file is.

Reports also suggest that Google might add this feature to Search results in the future. So, people may soon be able to listen to AI-generated answers directly while searching on Google.

This update makes the Gemini app more user-friendly and shows how Google is working to make AI tools more accessible to everyone.
