Huawei Mate X7 Global Launch: Big Display, New Chip and Premium Features

Huawei has launched the Mate X7 foldable smartphone globally, one month after its debut in China. This new book-style foldable comes with powerful hardware, an advanced display system, and Huawei’s own HarmonyOS 6.0 — a software that does not rely on Android.

The phone arrives with a single variant offering 16GB RAM and 512GB storage, priced at EUR 2,099 (around Rs. 2,20,000). It is available in three colours: Black, Brocade White, and Nebula Red. In China, the Mate X7 was introduced earlier at a lower starting price of CNY 12,999 (around Rs. 1,63,500).

The Huawei Mate X7 features an 8-inch flexible OLED inner display with a resolution of 2,210 x 2,416 pixels. It supports up to 240Hz touch sampling rate and a peak brightness of 2,500 nits. The outer cover display measures 6.49 inches with a 3D quad-curved LTPO OLED panel, peak brightness of 3,000 nits, and a sampling rate of 300Hz. Both displays offer adaptive refresh rates from 1Hz to 120Hz and 1440Hz PWM dimming. The external screen comes with second-generation Kunlun Glass for added protection.

Powering the Mate X7 is the Kirin 9030 Pro chip, combined with 16GB RAM and 512GB internal storage. On the back, the device carries a triple-camera system: a 50-megapixel main RYYB camera with variable aperture and OIS, a 40-megapixel ultra-wide-angle RYYB camera, and a 50-megapixel telephoto RYYB camera with OIS. The camera setup also includes Huawei’s second-generation red maple sensor. For selfies and video calls, there are two 8-megapixel cameras — one on the inner display and another on the cover display.

The smartphone comes with an IP58+IP59 rating, making it resistant to dust and water. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 6, NFC, USB Type-C, several global navigation systems, and multiple sensors such as a fingerprint scanner, gyroscope, barometer, and ambient light sensor.

Huawei has packed a 5,300mAh battery in the standard model, supporting 66W wired and 50W wireless fast charging. The Chinese Collector’s Edition features a larger 5,600mAh battery, but the global model sticks to the 5,300mAh version.

With its upgraded chip, bright displays, and premium foldable design, the Huawei Mate X7 positions itself as a high-end competitor in the global foldable smartphone market.
