New Delhi, September 2, 2025 – A fresh political row erupted on Tuesday after BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya alleged that senior Congress leader Pawan Khera possesses two active voter ID cards, questioning the credibility of Congress’ claims on “vote chori” (vote theft).
Malviya shared documents on social media that allegedly show Khera registered as a voter in both the Jangpura and New Delhi Assembly constituencies, under East Delhi and New Delhi Lok Sabha seats respectively. He accused the Congress of hypocrisy, stating, “Congress is the quintessential vote chor. That is why they want to tarnish everyone with the same brush.”
The Allegations
According to BJP, the two entries list:
- EPIC 1: Pawan Khera, son of H.L. Khera, registered in Jangpura (41), Nizamuddin East, Serial No. 929.
- EPIC 2: Pawan Khera, son of H.L. Khera, registered in New Delhi (40), Kaka Nagar, Serial No. 820.
Malviya urged the Election Commission to investigate whether Khera voted multiple times, calling it a “clear violation of electoral laws.”
Khera’s Response
Pawan Khera strongly denied any wrongdoing, claiming he had already shifted his residence in 2016 and followed due process to get his old voter ID deleted. He questioned why his name still exists in the New Delhi rolls.
“This is exactly what Congress has been saying. I want the Election Commission to explain who is casting a vote in my name in New Delhi. I demand CCTV footage,” Khera said.
He further alleged that the presence of such duplicate entries in voter lists is widespread across the country and is being “misused” under the Survey of India Register (SIR).
Rahul Gandhi’s “Hydrogen Bomb” Warning
The controversy coincides with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent warning of a “hydrogen bomb” of revelations on alleged voter list manipulation. Gandhi has accused the BJP of orchestrating large-scale voter fraud, claiming the issue is resonating even outside India.
With both parties escalating charges, the Election Commission now faces renewed pressure to address concerns over duplicate voter IDs and the integrity of electoral rolls.
