As concerns grow about children spending too much time on screens, tech companies are beginning to rethink how devices for kids should work. One such product is the Nodi Flip, unveiled at CES 2026. It is designed especially for children aged five to 12 and takes a very different approach from smartphones and tablets.
The Nodi Flip has no screen and focuses completely on audio-based learning and entertainment. Children can listen to music and audiobooks through Spotify Connect, as well as content from the company’s own Nodi Library. This library includes offline material, making it useful even without an internet connection. The device comes with 16GB of built-in storage.
There are two versions of the Nodi Flip. The Wi-Fi model works at home or through a hotspot and still allows access to offline content anywhere. The Wi-Fi + LTE model includes eSIM or nano-SIM support, letting children send messages and stream audio while on the move.
To avoid digital distractions, the Nodi Flip removes features commonly found on smart devices. There is no web browsing, no video streaming, and no endless scrolling. The idea is to keep children focused on listening, learning, and thinking rather than staring at a screen.
The device also supports voice messaging, but in a controlled and safe way. Messages can only be exchanged between Nodi Flip devices or through the Nodi app on a parent’s phone. Parents manage contacts and control who their child can communicate with, ensuring a safe environment.
The company behind Nodi is run by parents who believe technology should help children grow, not distract them. They feel that constant screens can reduce curiosity and attention. Their goal is simple: help children become thoughtful users of technology, not passive consumers.
