Meta is preparing to launch its new Hypernova Smart Glasses this September. These will succeed the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses and are expected to be the company’s most advanced and most expensive wearable yet.
Price and Availability
According to reports, the Meta Hypernova Smart Glasses will start at $800 (around ₹70,000). Earlier, they were expected to cost between $1,000 and $1,400 (₹87,000–₹1.2 lakh). The reduced price suggests Meta is willing to take lower profits at launch to attract more buyers.
For comparison, the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses launched at $299 (around ₹25,000), with prices going higher depending on frames and lenses. Despite the price cut, the Hypernova will still be Meta’s costliest wearable device so far. It will even be more expensive than the recently launched Oakley Meta Glasses, priced at $499 (₹43,200).
Features and Expectations
The Hypernova Smart Glasses are expected to include a small display that can show apps, photos, and notifications. This screen will reportedly be located in the lower-right corner of the lens. The glasses may also come with gesture support, allowing users to control features with hand movements instead of physical buttons.
Reports also suggest that different versions of the Hypernova could be priced higher, depending on the design, frame style, and lens options.
What’s Next
Even before the launch of the first model, Meta is said to be working on the Hypernova 2, which could feature a binocular display system (dual-screen setup) for a more immersive experience. That upgraded version is expected to launch in 2027.
Why It Matters
The launch of the Hypernova shows Meta’s growing investment in augmented reality (AR) wearables. By pricing the device lower than expected, Meta may hope to make it more appealing to consumers while still offering premium features.
With a September launch just around the corner, the Hypernova Smart Glasses could set new standards for AR technology, even though their high price may limit accessibility to only early adopters and tech enthusiasts.
