Mark Zuckerberg Unveils Vision for Personal AI Superpower

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has shared his bold vision for the future of artificial intelligence (AI). He believes AI is entering a “new era of personal empowerment” where people, not big companies or governments, will hold the real power. He wants AI to help individuals create, think, and solve problems—not just to automate work or take over jobs.

Zuckerberg made these comments in a public letter shared on Meta’s website. This is his first major announcement since Meta launched its new “Superintelligence Labs,” headed by former Scale AI CEO Alexandr Wang. Meta now sees the 2020s as the most important decade to shape the future of AI.

According to Zuckerberg, the future of AI lies in what he calls “personal superintelligence”—a type of AI that helps individuals in daily life. Unlike other tech companies like Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Elon Musk’s xAI, which focus on building general AI for all of humanity, Meta wants to build AI that each person can use in their own way.

He warned against a future where superintelligence automates everything and humans are left dependent on its output. Instead, he said AI should give people more control over their lives and allow them to do more, faster.

Zuckerberg also predicted that smart glasses will become the main computing device in the future, replacing smartphones and laptops. These glasses would be able to “see what we see, hear what we hear, and understand our surroundings,” giving people constant AI support throughout their day.

The statement came just hours before Meta reported its second-quarter results. The company showed strong growth: daily active users went up by 6%, ad impressions increased by 11% year-on-year, and the average price of ads rose by 9%.

Meta is also reportedly reviving its smartwatch with a camera project and may soon allow WhatsApp users to import profile pictures from Instagram and Facebook.

Zuckerberg’s message is clear: the future of AI should be personal, not controlled.
