Google has updated the Gemini app with a redesigned prompt bar to improve usability. Previously, the bar appeared as a rectangular box for typing queries, messages, and requests. The new design features an open-box style, with only a top lid and no sides or bottom. This allows users to fit more characters in a single line, optimizing space and readability.

The tools icon has also received a facelift. Earlier, a “+” icon opened all features, including image generation, video generation (for paid subscribers), Deep Research, and Canvas. In the updated version, the most frequently used tool now appears separately as a chip or button, while the remaining tools are tucked behind an ellipsis (three-dot) icon. This makes navigation quicker and more intuitive for users.
Disclaimer Repositioned
Another notable change is the repositioning of the “Gemini can make mistakes, so double-check it” disclaimer. Previously, this warning appeared at the bottom of the prompt bar whenever a user submitted a query. In the new version, it has been moved below the AI response, under the like, dislike, feedback, and share buttons. This keeps the interface cleaner while still cautioning users about potential AI errors.
Better Use of Space
The open-box design not only provides extra horizontal space for typing but also makes better use of negative space on mobile screens. The top lid curves slightly at the edges, giving a rounded rectangle appearance that visually blends with the device screen. The redesign is currently live on Android, with the iOS version expected soon.
