Vijay to Meet Karur Stampede Victims’ Families in Chennai on Oct 27

Meeting to Offer Support and Hear Families
Tamil Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader and actor Vijay is expected to meet the families of the 41 victims who lost their lives in the Karur stampede. The meeting is scheduled for October 27 in Chennai, according to party sources. TVK members said that Vijay aims to spend five to six hours with the families to listen to their experiences and provide emotional support.

A party insider explained that Chennai was chosen because it offers a more controlled and secure environment. “We tried to find a venue in Karur, but none were suitable. The places suggested lacked safety measures and space,” the source said. Except for one family, all others have agreed to travel to Chennai to meet the TVK chief.

Why the Meeting Was Delayed
TVK faced criticism for the delay in Vijay’s meeting with the affected families. The party clarified that every time they finalized a location in Karur, the approval was withdrawn just hours before the event. Because of this uncertainty, the team decided to shift the meeting to Chennai, ensuring proper arrangements and safety for all.

Vijay’s party had already transferred ₹20 lakh to each of the victims’ families as compensation. The leader had also urged his supporters to avoid grand Diwali celebrations this year, dedicating the festival to the memory of those who lost their lives in the tragic incident.

Aftermath and Future Plans
The Karur stampede occurred on September 27 during a TVK rally attended by tens of thousands of supporters, even though police had permitted only 10,000. The chaos broke out when the crowd surged toward the stage after Vijay arrived several hours late.

Following the tragedy, TVK suspended its ongoing political yatra and awaited a report from the Supreme Court-appointed committee investigating the incident. Vijay is expected to decide the party’s next course of action after meeting the victims’ families. Political observers believe his response could influence TVK’s image ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections.
