Apple is expected to release the iPhone 17 series in September 2025, but rumours are already surfacing about a cheaper model, the iPhone 17e. This phone is said to succeed the iPhone 16e, which launched earlier this year in February. The iPhone 17e could launch in May 2026, offering an affordable option in Apple’s lineup.
According to tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, the iPhone 17e may feature a 6.1-inch OLED display with a 60Hz refresh rate, described as a “low-power” screen. It is expected to run on Apple’s A19 chip. The rear camera could be a single 48-megapixel lens, while the front may have a 12-megapixel selfie camera. The phone might also feature Apple’s “Smart Island” design, similar to the Dynamic Island introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro series, and 3D face recognition for security.
For comparison, the iPhone 16e comes with a 6.1-inch OLED display, a 60Hz refresh rate, Apple’s A18 chip, and a single 48-megapixel rear camera with a 12-megapixel front camera. It also supports Face ID and Apple Intelligence features.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that Apple may delay the standard iPhone 18 model. While the iPhone 18 Pro series could launch in September 2026, the regular iPhone 18 might be postponed to the first half of 2027, possibly alongside the iPhone 17e. The delay may be due to Apple preparing to launch a foldable iPhone in the second half of 2027.
In addition to the iPhone updates, Apple is expected to introduce new Apple Watch models with updated sensors and a major redesign in 2026. The iPhone 17-series likely includes the standard iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, with a possible iPhone 17 Air replacing the Plus series.
With these developments, Apple seems focused on expanding its range with affordable and innovative options, while preparing for its foldable iPhone entry, making 2026 an exciting year for tech enthusiasts.
