Kia Syros vs Skoda Kylaq: Neck-and-Neck in SUV Race

Kia and Skoda are making big moves in India’s compact SUV market with their newest models — the Kia Syros and Skoda Kylaq. Launched in January 2025, both SUVs have together sold 48,085 units in just six months. The Kia Syros leads slightly with 24,371 units, while the Skoda Kylaq follows closely with 23,714 units — a difference of just 657 units.

Together, they now command 7% of the compact SUV segment, which recorded nearly 700,000 sales from January to June 2025.

Kia Syros: A Strong Start, Then Slowdown

The Kia Syros had a powerful first quarter with 15,986 units sold, but sales dropped over the next three months. From 5,000+ units in the early months, June saw a sharp dip to just 774 units. Still, it contributed 17% of Kia India’s total utility vehicle sales during this time. With two engine options (1.0L petrol and 1.5L diesel) and mileage up to 20.75kpl, it offers variety and performance. Priced between ₹9 lakh to ₹17.80 lakh (ex-showroom), it comes in 13 variants and is packed with features.

Skoda Kylaq: Steady Climber

The Skoda Kylaq, on the other hand, has shown steady month-on-month growth, recording a 32% rise in Q2. It now makes up a huge 65% of Skoda India’s total sales. Powered by a 1.0L turbo-petrol engine, it offers fuel efficiency of nearly 19.7kpl on the highway. The Kylaq is praised for its high build quality, safety features, and five-star Bharat NCAP rating. Its pricing is aggressive too, starting from ₹8.25 lakh to ₹13.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

Close Race Ahead

With both models showing strong potential, the Syros vs Kylaq battle is far from over. Kia needs to address its recent sales dip, while Skoda looks set to push toward 8,000 units/month by year-end. In India’s crowded SUV market, this is one rivalry to watch closely.
