The Hyundai Creta, India’s most popular midsize SUV, has completed 10 successful years since its launch on July 21, 2015. Over this decade, it has achieved total sales of 1.55 million units, including 1.26 million in India and 289,083 units exported to global markets.
A Decade of Strong Sales
In the past 18 months alone, after the launch of the new Creta in January 2024, Hyundai sold 279,527 units in India. Despite tough competition, Creta continues to dominate the midsize SUV segment. In the first quarter of FY2026, it topped the utility vehicle (UV) sales chart with 47,662 units, a 3% increase from the previous year.
In FY2025, Creta secured the second spot in overall UV sales with 194,871 units, just behind Tata Punch by a slim margin of 1,696 units. Together with the Creta Electric, it contributed 47% of Hyundai’s SUV sales, pushing Hyundai’s SUV share to 68.5% of its passenger vehicle sales in India.
New Facelift and Power Options
The facelifted Creta launched in January 2024 brought a fresh design and updated interiors, which customers quickly embraced. It set a segment record by selling 100,000 units in just six months, much faster than rivals like the Maruti Grand Vitara.
Hyundai’s decision to continue with diesel options has proven successful. The Creta offers three engine choices – 1.5-litre petrol, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol, and 1.5-litre diesel. Demand remains strong for diesel variants, especially with automatic gearboxes.
The range now includes 44 variants: 23 petrol (₹13.67–23.60 lakh), 15 diesel (₹15.69–23.93 lakh), and 6 electric (₹19.14–24.90 lakh).
Future Plans
Hyundai has also launched the Creta Electric, boosting its electric passenger vehicle (e-PV) market share from 1% to 5% in a year. Work on the third-generation Creta has already begun. It will introduce a hybrid powertrain alongside the current petrol and diesel engines, offering four engine options in total.
With a strong legacy, updated features, and multiple powertrains, Hyundai Creta is set to remain a favorite among Indian SUV buyers.
