Hyderabad: A. Revanth Reddy, the Chief Minister of Telangana, proposed a new automatic traffic fine collection system for those who break the rules. By this alternative, the owners’ bank accounts would be charged directly for the traffic challan, thus eliminating the need for manual payment.

The Chief Minister recommended the traffic police to connect all vehicles to the owners’ bank accounts at the moment of vehicle registration. This implies that every time there is a traffic infraction and a ticket is issued, the fine will be taken out immediately. He insisted this system should supersede the present one, in which payment is frequently delayed by the offenders.

CM Revanth Reddy proposed this solution while there was an introduction of the road safety campaign named ‘Arrive Alive’. He underlined that the regulation of the traffic has turned into a big problem and required the greatest priority from the government and police.

The Chief Minister also mentioned the necessity to take stern measures against underage drivers. He claimed that if parents were to allow their kids to drive and cause accidents, then they should be the ones to bear responsibility. He continued that driving under the influence and accidents must be given the same tough treatment in order to decrease the number of casualties in road accidents.

To illustrate the gravity of the situation, the CM stated that in India, there is one road accident every minute and one death every three minutes. He referred to the deaths resulting from traffic violations as “preventable” and said that it is time to take strong action against them.

CM Revanth Reddy did not hesitate to call for a drastic improvement in traffic management through modern technology. He disclosed that the Telangana government has brought Google onboard through the signing of an MoU for the very purpose of better traffic management. He further suggested that the traffic enforcement mechanism would be made more powerful by the complete integration of CCTV cameras with the Command Control Centre.

The Chief Minister put forward the concepts of spreading road safety consciousness among children, updating traffic signals, and reshaping the transport system as the needful steps. He insisted that road safety should be on top of the list of priorities with the support of unambiguous rules and, if necessary, a new law.

The programme was marked by the presence of several senior ministers, police officers, and other officials who voiced their approbation of the police department’s work in the area of road safety awareness.
