Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has said India is set to become a global leader in 6G technology. He made the statement at an event in New Delhi while speaking about the country’s fast digital progress.

Scindia was addressing the audience at the launch of the book The Digital Decades: Thirty Years of the Internet in India, written by Subimal Bhattacharjee. During his speech, the minister highlighted how India’s telecom journey has evolved over the years.

He said India followed the world during the 4G era and moved alongside other countries during the rollout of 5G. However, he expressed strong confidence that India will take the lead globally when it comes to 6G technology.

According to Scindia, India’s digital transformation over the past three decades has been both wide and deep. He described it as one of the most important changes in the country’s modern history. The minister pointed to the shift from telegraph systems to advanced 5G towers and from handwritten payments to QR codes and UPI as examples of this rapid progress.

Looking ahead, Scindia stressed that artificial intelligence and digital public infrastructure will shape the next phase of India’s growth. He called communication the “heartbeat of our lives” and said emerging technologies will play a key role in economic expansion.

The minister also noted that artificial intelligence alone could add nearly $957 billion to India’s GDP by 2030. This, he said, shows the massive opportunity ahead for the country in the digital and technology sectors.

Praising the newly launched book, Scindia said it not only documents India’s digital journey but also serves as a useful policy guide for managing future technologies while responsibly handling older systems.

His remarks underline the government’s strong focus on making India a global technology powerhouse in the coming years.
