ChatGPT Plus subscribers can now use the new Record Mode feature on ChatGPT for macOS. This tool allows users to record up to 120 minutes of audio per session, making it easy to take notes, transcribe conversations, and create summaries without joiningcalls as a participant.
What is Record Mode?
Record Mode was first introduced for ChatGPT Team users and later rolled out to ChatGPT Edu, Enterprise, and Pro subscribers. Now, it is available for all ChatGPT Plus users worldwide. The feature is currently exclusive to macOS and is not yet available on Windows.
The tool is designed to capture system audio, such as conference calls, meetings, or voice notes, directly from your computer. It then transcribes the audio and generates summaries that can be converted into emails or detailed notes using the chatbot.
How to Use Record Mode
To use Record Mode, you need an active ChatGPT Plus subscription and the ChatGPT for macOS app. After granting permission for microphone and system audio access, you simply click the record button at the bottom of the chat window. Users can pause and resume recording as needed, with a total limit of 120 minutes per session.
Once the recording is processed, ChatGPT provides a summary in the form of a canvas. This allows users to quickly turn meeting notes or brainstorming sessions into structured documents.
Future Plans and Language Support
Currently, Record Mode works only with English, but OpenAI is improving its accuracy for other languages. The company has stated that the feature is available at no extra cost for now, although pricing may change in the future.
OpenAI is also reportedly developing an AI-powered web browser, possibly called Aura, and plans to add support for Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint files in ChatGPT.
For now, Windows users will have to wait, as OpenAI has not confirmed when Record Mode will be launched for the ChatGPT for Windows application.
With Record Mode, ChatGPT Plus users can enjoy a smarter way to handle audio recordings, making tasks like note-taking and summarization faster and more efficient.
