Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Tuesday said India can be confident about its security progress in 2025. Speaking at the Army’s annual press conference, he said Operation Sindoor clearly showed India’s readiness, precision, and strong strategic thinking.
Referring to India’s response to the Pahalgam terror attack, the Army Chief said the operation reflected today’s global reality: “Nations that stay prepared, prevail.” He added that the past year saw many armed conflicts worldwide, making preparedness more important than ever.
Gen Dwivedi said Operation Sindoor was a well-planned and carefully executed response to cross-border terrorism. The operation began on May 7 and continued in a coordinated manner until May 10. During this period, Indian forces struck deep terror targets and destroyed seven out of nine identified locations. He said the operation challenged old assumptions and sent a clear message against terrorism.
The Army Chief stated that Operation Sindoor is still ongoing and warned that any future misadventure would be met with a firm response.
He also spoke about reforms and modernisation in the Army. He said initiatives under “JAI” — Jointness, Aatmanirbharta, and Innovation — along with government support, helped the Army achieve strong progress in 2025.
On border situations, Gen Dwivedi said the North-Western Front remains stable but needs constant monitoring. He added that talks and confidence-building steps have helped improve conditions, allowing normal activities in border areas. Along the Line of Actual Control, he said Army deployment remains balanced, strong, and supported by better infrastructure.
The Army Chief praised coordination between the Army, other services, central armed police forces, intelligence agencies, and civil authorities. He said Operation Sindoor was a clear example of strong cooperation among all three armed forces, guided by clear political leadership.
He also thanked the media for its role in connecting the Army with the public and spreading awareness during the operation.
