Nadda Slams Congress Over Appeasement Politics Charge
Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha, J. P. Nadda, strongly criticised the Indian National Congress and the I.N.D.I.A. bloc, accusing them of practising appeasement politics. He made these remarks during the ongoing Budget Session in the Rajya Sabha in New Delhi.
Nadda said that opposition parties treat the Muslim community mainly as a vote bank instead of focusing on real development issues. He also claimed that these parties lack respect for democratic values and the Constitution.
Referring to an incident during Zero Hour, Nadda said that BJP member K. Laxman was speaking within his allotted time when opposition members continuously interrupted him. According to Nadda, this behaviour showed a lack of faith in parliamentary procedures and healthy debate.
During his speech, Laxman had raised concerns about the misuse of OBC reservation policies in some opposition-ruled states such as Karnataka, West Bengal, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. He alleged that reservations were being used in the name of religion, which sparked protests from opposition members.
Following this, members of the opposition staged a walkout from the House. Nadda criticised this move, saying it showed that the opposition was trying to avoid discussions on important issues.
He described such disruptions as inappropriate and said they weaken the functioning of Parliament. Nadda also stated that the government, led by Narendra Modi, is always open to debate and discussion on all matters.
The exchange highlights ongoing tensions between the ruling party and the opposition in Parliament, especially during important sessions. The issue of reservations, political strategies and parliamentary conduct continues to remain a key point of disagreement between both sides.
