End Leadership Confusion Before Budget, Says G Parameshwara

Amid ongoing uncertainty over Congress leadership in Karnataka, Home Minister G Parameshwara has urged the party high command to resolve the issue quickly. He said the confusion should end before the upcoming Budget session so that the government can focus fully on development and public welfare.

Speaking on Monday, Parameshwara said repeated and conflicting statements from party leaders were creating unnecessary doubt and harming the government’s work. He stressed that clear leadership decisions are essential at this stage, especially with the Budget session approaching.

Parameshwara said he has always accepted the decisions taken by the Congress high command and continues to stand by them. He added that the party’s central leadership should step in and clarify the situation at the earliest. According to him, mixed public messages from different leaders should not happen when important policy matters, including the Budget, are due.

“The Budget session is nearing. All leadership-related issues must be resolved quickly so we can present a development-focused Budget. Right now, one leader says one thing and another says something else. This should stop,” Parameshwara said.

He explained that continued confusion distracts the government from fulfilling the promises made to the people of Karnataka. Instead of focusing on governance, leaders are being drawn into speculation and internal debates, which affects public confidence.

The comments come amid an ongoing power tussle within the Karnataka Congress, mainly between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. The dispute is linked to rumours of a power-sharing agreement made in 2023, which allegedly included a mid-term change in the chief minister’s post. Siddaramaiah has repeatedly denied that any such agreement exists.

Speculation increased in December 2025 after reports emerged that several Congress MLAs travelled to Delhi, seeking a leadership change after half of the government’s term. The situation drew more attention due to separate meetings held by party leaders and Shivakumar’s frequent visits to the national capital. Though Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar later held joint meetings and press conferences to show unity, internal differences have not fully settled.

The opposition BJP has criticised the Congress, mocking it for its visible internal divisions. Meanwhile, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has downplayed the issue, calling it “local confusion” and saying there is no disagreement at the high command level. He has asked Karnataka leaders to follow decisions made by the central leadership and avoid public disputes.

With the Budget session nearing, senior leaders like Parameshwara believe clarity is urgently needed.
