A police case has been registered against an orthopaedic surgeon in Kerala after a young man alleged medical negligence during a hip surgery. The complaint was filed by a 24-year-old patient who said the surgery caused him severe pain instead of relief.
According to the complaint, the patient went to a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram after suffering from long-term pain in his hip joints. Doctors advised surgery to improve blood circulation in the hips. The first operation, done on his right hip, was successful and he was discharged without major issues.
However, problems reportedly began during the second surgery on his left hip. The patient alleged that during the procedure, the tip of a surgical bone drill broke and got stuck inside his hip bone. He claimed that since the surgery, he has been experiencing intense pain in his hip and leg, making daily life difficult.
Based on his complaint, the police registered a case against the surgeon for alleged negligence and careless conduct that could endanger life or safety. An investigation is now underway to examine the claims and medical records related to the surgery.
The hospital management has denied any wrongdoing. Hospital officials stated that the doctor followed standard medical procedures and that such complications can sometimes occur during complex surgeries. They added that removing the broken metal piece would have required another major surgery, which could have posed additional risks to the patient. The doctor reportedly advised against further surgery for this reason.
The case has raised concerns about patient safety and medical accountability. Authorities will now look into whether proper care was taken during the procedure and if the complaint of negligence is justified.
