Apple is getting ready to launch its new iPhone 17 series, and India will play a big role in the process. According to a report, parts for the iPhone 17 have already arrived at a Foxconn factory in India. Trial production is expected to begin this month, and mass production may start in August.
Apple usually launches its new iPhones in September. The iPhone 17 lineup is likely to include four models: iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and a new model called iPhone 17 Air (also called iPhone 17 Slim). The iPhone 17 Air is expected to be Apple’s thinnest phone yet and could replace the iPhone 16 Plus.
Customs records show that Foxconn recently imported iPhone 17 parts from China. These parts were included in a larger shipment that also had components for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 16, which are still being made in India due to strong demand.
Apple first started making iPhones in India with the iPhone SE and has increased production in the country over the years. In 2024, Apple made the iPhone 16 in both India and China at the same time. This helped the company meet demand in the US after higher import tariffs were placed on Chinese goods.
The upcoming iPhone 17 models are expected to have OLED displays with high refresh rates. Leaks suggest the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro Max may have a new camera design. The iPhone 17 Air is expected to come with just one rear camera and may be available in four color options.
Some hands-on images and dummy models of the iPhone 17 series have already surfaced online. These leaks hint at design changes, such as a repositioned Apple logo and a new MagSafe system.
With trial production beginning soon, Apple is on track to launch the iPhone 17 series globally in September — with India playing a key role in its production for the first time.
