Amazon is expanding Alexa+, the new AI-powered version of its digital assistant, beyond smart speakers. The company is adding browser access, deeper TV features, and automatic upgrades for some Prime users as it rolls out Alexa+ more widely.
Alexa+ was first introduced in February last year. It is the biggest upgrade to Alexa since the assistant was launched in 2014. With generative AI, Alexa+ can hold more natural conversations, understand context better, and learn user preferences over time. It can also complete tasks for users, such as shopping online, booking travel, and working with third-party services.
Recently, some Prime users reported that their devices were automatically upgraded to Alexa+ without opting in. According to user posts on forums and social media, Amazon showed a message saying users could switch back by saying, “Alexa, exit Alexa Plus.”
At CES 2026, Amazon confirmed that Alexa+ is no longer limited to Echo speakers or smartphones. Early-access users can now use Alexa+ through a web browser at Alexa.com. The web version looks like a chatbot and allows users to type instead of speak. It also includes tools for calendars, shopping, lists, and smart home controls.
On the web, Alexa+ can manage reminders, control smart devices, plan meals or trips, make reservations, and continue conversations started on other devices. Amazon said Alexa+ remembers context, so tasks can move smoothly between phone, browser, and smart speakers.
Amazon has also added Alexa+ directly into Fire TV. With this update, users can search shows using natural language, jump to scenes, check sports scores, add shows to watchlists, and control smart home devices. This update will be available as a free software upgrade for supported Fire TV models.
Beyond the home, Amazon showed Alexa+ working in cars through partners like BMW. It is also being tested with wearable devices, such as the Bee wristband, which can record conversations and create summaries and reminders.
With these updates, Amazon is clearly pushing Alexa+ to become a central AI assistant across many devices and everyday activities.
