MapmyIndia has added a new feature to its Mappls navigation app that allows users to plan trips using public transport. With this update, people can now see metro, train and bus routes directly on the app, along with stations, stops and interchange points. The aim is to help commuters plan journeys that combine different modes of transport on one platform.
The multimodal public transport feature connects public transport data with Mappls’ existing navigation tools. Users can view routes, check where to change lines or buses, and combine public transport with private travel options such as walking or driving. This makes trip planning easier, especially in busy cities where commuters often use more than one transport mode.
At present, the feature is available in several major Indian cities. These include Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Pune, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Nagpur, Indore, Patna, Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, Jaipur, Kochi and Bhopal. MapmyIndia said more cities will be added in the future. The feature is already live on iOS devices and on the web version of Mappls, while the Android rollout is expected soon.
MapmyIndia explained that this update builds on its existing services. The Mappls app already offers turn-by-turn navigation, real-time traffic updates, safety alerts and route optimisation. By adding metro, rail and bus information, the company wants to bring both public and private transport options together in one navigation app.
Rakesh Verma, Co-Founder, Chairman and Managing Director of MapmyIndia Mappls, said the new feature was developed based on feedback from users. He added that the goal is to make public transport information easier to access and more reliable for daily commuters. The company also plans to work closely with transport authorities and partners to improve data accuracy and expand coverage.
MapmyIndia believes that easier access to public transport information could encourage more people to use buses, trains and metros. This may help reduce traffic congestion and lower pollution levels in cities.
MapmyIndia Mappls currently has over 40 million users. Its government business contributes around 20% of its total revenue. The company operates under C.E. Info Systems Ltd and has been active in digital mapping since 1995, providing mapping and location intelligence services in India and abroad.
