DS Automobiles to Exit Formula E After 2025-26 Season

DS Automobiles has stated that it will exit the Formula E by the conclusion of the 2025-26 season. The move represents the culmination of an effective push by the brand into the all-electric racing circuit.

The firm claimed it is redefining its sporting and technology strategy and is now looking into other platforms such as golf and SailGP around the world. The step implies that DS will not carry on into the new Gen4 season of Formula E.

DS joined Formula E in the 2015-16 season. With time it turned out to be one of the most successful teams in the championship. The brand had a tremendous success during its association with Techeetah, as it won both drivers and teams championships in consecutive seasons with drivers Jean-Eric Vergne and Antonio Felix da Costa.

In the Gen3 era, DS collaborated with Penske Autosport. Despite the team remaining on course, winning races, it was no longer able to achieve its past dominance. Nevertheless, DS continued to be competitive and frequent on the grid.

This departure would, according to reports, create an opportunity to invite Opel into Formula E beginning with the 2026-27 season. Opel belongs to the Stellantis group that owns DS as well, implying a change of strategy in the company.

Officials of Formula E have credited DS with its input, and alluded to a new manufacturer announcement coming soon. The departure also leaves the future of Penske Autosport in the championship in question.

DS will go on hiatus with the London finale in August 2026. It will have not only won the race at least 18 times by this point, but also 55 podiums and two championship doubles.

The existing driver line has Maximilian Guenther and Taylor Barnard. The exit of DS is the final step of a significant chapter in the history of Formula E.
