Anam Mirza, sister of tennis star Sania Mirza, recently shared how she made a simple change to save money—she stopped using UPI apps completely. In a video posted on Instagram, she revealed that she deleted Google Pay from her phone to avoid quick spending.
Her video is part of a series called Little Changes, Big Impact. In Episode 4, she explained that not scanning QR codes or making instant online payments made her more aware of where her money was going. Her caption read, “No scan = less spend. Made me way more aware of where my money’s going.”
At first, Anam said it wasn’t easy. She even had to ask her friends to buy her coffee when she didn’t have cash. But over time, she got used to it and started finding it helpful. She believes that this small step has helped her spend more carefully and only on things that truly matter.
Her video quickly gained attention online. Many viewers appreciated her honesty and said they were inspired to try the same thing. One user commented, “This will definitely make a big impact for sure.” Another said, “Really a great change to have at this era of time.”
However, not everyone agreed. Some people felt that deleting UPI apps may work for someone who is already financially secure, but not for the average person. One user pointed out, “Suits you because you’re already rich. Only middle-class people like us could relate to how convenient UPI is.”
Despite the mixed reactions, Anam’s idea stood out because it was so simple. Instead of using complicated budgeting methods, she just removed the ease of spending. For many, this may be a reminder that small lifestyle changes can lead to better money habits.
Her story is a good example of how being mindful of our spending can start with just one small decision—even something as simple as not scanning a QR code.
