As the world celebrates International Yoga Day 2025, spiritual leader Sadhguru offers deep insight into how yoga may not just promote flexibility and calm—but could actually slow down ageing.
In an exclusive conversation, Sadhguru shared that yoga is not just physical exercise but a complete system of inner transformation. He recounted a medical test by a German doctor who declared his cellular age to be 25, despite his chronological age being much higher. “Yoga is a technology towards ecstasy. It changes how your system functions at its core,” he explained.
According to Sadhguru, practices from his Inner Engineering program have shown significant results. “Studies show that neuronal regeneration can rise by 241% and BDNF levels triple in 90 days,” he said, referring to brain chemicals vital for emotional well-being.
He emphasized that yoga’s true power lies in helping people go beyond the physical body. “When you connect with something deeper within, ageing no longer feels like a threat,” he said.
Simple changes like eating less and using the body actively can also enhance health and longevity. “If we use the body well, 80% of health issues can vanish,” he noted.
Sadhguru urged people not to confuse youth with age. “Youth means you don’t settle—you stay curious, joyful, and open to life.” While anti-ageing creams work on the surface, yoga works at the cellular and mental levels, rejuvenating both body and mind.
His final message on Yoga Day: “As you can engineer machines, you can engineer yourself. Start now.”
For anyone wondering if it’s too late to begin yoga, Sadhguru’s answer is simple: “You’re still young in the grand scheme of things. Why not feel that way too?”
