Audi Brings Back A2 as Affordable Electric Car
New Delhi: Audi has announced that it will bring back the A2 name for a new entry-level electric car. The original A2 hatchback was discontinued in the mid-2000s, and now the company plans to relaunch it as a fully electric model. The upcoming A2 will be one of the most affordable electric cars from Audi. The vehicle will enable more people to start driving Audi electric vehicles. The company intends to use this new electric vehicle to gradually replace its existing small vehicles which include the Audi A1 and the Audi Q2.
Audi CEO Gernot Döllner said the A2 E-tron will be efficient, compact, and practical. People will find it easier to use electric vehicles which the company designs for their daily needs.
The new A2 is scheduled to be unveiled to the public during this current calendar year. The new vehicle will use the MEB platform which already supports production of Volkswagen ID.3 vehicles. The A2 will have dimensions and design elements that follow Audi’s design trends according to the MEB platform specifications.
The vehicle design uses early images and reports to show that the car has a compact body structure but contains tall components which create an SUV appearance. The design approach follows the path established by the original A2 which achieved efficiency through its intelligent space management system.
The company develops its new vehicle through research which improves its aerodynamic performance and its passenger comfort features. Audi will manufacture the A2 at its Ingolstadt factory in Germany where multiple other vehicle models are produced.
With this launch, Audi aims to expand its electric lineup and attract a wider range of customers looking for a smaller and more affordable EV.
