India and Sweden have taken a major step to deepen cooperation in artificial intelligence and digital technology. The two countries signed a Statement of Intent between the IndiaAI Mission and Business Sweden during the India AI Impact Summit 2026.
The agreement aims to boost joint work in developing, applying, and deploying AI solutions. It also seeks to increase trade, investment, and innovation partnerships between the two nations.
A key outcome of the pact is the creation of the Sweden–India Technology and Artificial Intelligence Corridor (SITAC). This new corridor will act as a structured platform linking governments, industries, startups, and academic institutions from both countries. The goal is to turn AI research into practical industrial and social solutions.
Officials from both sides said the partnership focuses on responsible and scalable AI innovation. It builds on the long-standing relationship between India and Sweden and reflects their shared interest in using technology for economic growth and sustainable development.
IndiaAI Mission Chief Operating Officer Kavita Bhatia said the collaboration positions both countries as co-creators of a trusted and value-based AI ecosystem. She noted that the partnership combines complementary strengths and shared democratic values.
Meanwhile, Business Sweden’s Trade and Invest Commissioner to India, Sofia Högman, said the agreement converts a common strategic vision into real action. She added that SITAC will connect the digital ecosystems of both countries and open new business opportunities.
Under the framework, India and Sweden plan to organise conferences, thematic workshops, and field visits to innovation hubs. The programme will also promote exchanges among companies, investors, researchers, and policymakers, while exploring joint innovation platforms and investment corridors.
Overall, the initiative aligns India’s push to build a strong national AI ecosystem with Sweden’s expertise in industrial innovation and responsible AI, creating fresh opportunities for startups, enterprises, and research institutions in both countries.
