Microsoft has added a new shopping feature to its AI chatbot, Copilot. With this update, users can now buy products directly inside a chat without visiting any external website. This makes Copilot a stronger rival to ChatGPT and Perplexity in AI-powered shopping.
When users ask Copilot for product suggestions, such as shoes or home items, the chatbot shows recommended products along with a “Buy” button. Clicking this button opens a checkout screen inside the chat itself. Users can enter their delivery address and payment details and complete the purchase without leaving Copilot.
Microsoft showed an example where Copilot helped a user find a bedside lamp. Along with product details, the chatbot displayed a buy option. The entire payment process happened within the chat, making shopping faster and simpler.
The in-chat checkout feature is currently being rolled out on the Copilot web version in the United States. At present, it works only with selected partner retailers. These include brands like Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, Ashley Furniture, and some Etsy sellers. Microsoft has partnered with PayPal, Stripe, and Shopify to handle payments. More retailers are expected to join soon.
This move brings Copilot closer to its competitors. ChatGPT already helps users find and compare products and also supports checkout options. Perplexity also offers conversational shopping with built-in payments. Google’s AI, Gemini, takes a different route. It helps users compare products but sends them to retailer websites to complete payments.
By adding direct checkout, Microsoft aims to make Copilot a complete shopping assistant. The feature saves time and keeps users inside one platform from search to payment. As AI tools continue to evolve, shopping through chatbots may soon become a common experience.
