Apple is planning a major upgrade for its voice assistant Siri, and this time, it will reportedly use Google’s Gemini AI model to boost its intelligence. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the new and improved Siri will launch in 2026 alongside iOS 26.4 and several new Apple devices.
Siri Gets Smarter With Gemini
The updated Siri, powered by what Apple calls “Apple Intelligence,” will include smarter, AI-driven features such as improved voice understanding and web search. Apple is said to be paying Google to build a custom version of the Gemini AI model, which will run on Apple’s private cloud servers. This collaboration is meant to enhance Siri’s capabilities while keeping users’ data safe within Apple’s ecosystem.
Earlier this year, Apple tested AI models from both Anthropic and Google. Reports say Anthropic’s model performed slightly better, but Apple ultimately chose Google due to their long-standing business partnership — especially their existing search engine deal. Gurman clarified that Siri won’t directly copy Gemini’s design but will instead use a version customized for Apple’s software and interface.
New Devices and Major Update
The Siri upgrade is expected to launch alongside Apple’s new smart home display, Apple TV, and HomePod mini models in early 2026. Apple might showcase these devices around March or April, according to the report. The company also plans to expand its smart home ecosystem, possibly introducing new AI-based cameras and home security devices.
The iOS 26.4 update will bring the most significant Siri improvements in years, making the assistant more responsive, context-aware, and capable of performing advanced tasks. Apple is also preparing for WWDC 2026, where it will reveal iOS 27, macOS 27, and other next-generation software — all focused on improving Apple Intelligence and AI-driven experiences.
Apple first introduced its AI roadmap at WWDC 2024, but delays pushed the launch. Now, with Google’s help, Siri might finally deliver the smart, conversational experience users have been waiting for.
