Chirag Paswan Demands Fair Probe Into Haryana IPS Officer’s Death

Union Minister Chirag Paswan has called for a transparent investigation into the alleged suicide of Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar. The officer, reportedly under professional and social pressure, passed away recently, sparking widespread concern and political reactions.

Paswan wrote to Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, urging swift and impartial action. He described the matter as “sensitive” and stressed the importance of a credible probe to ensure justice and restore public trust. He emphasized that prompt action is necessary in such critical situations to identify any wrongdoing and hold the guilty accountable.

Speaking to reporters, Paswan said he had also discussed the issue with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and had spoken personally with the late officer’s wife. He mentioned that he tried to understand her pain and conveyed it to both the Haryana CM and Amit Shah. “It will be ensured that strict action is taken against the guilty,” he added.

The death of Puran Kumar has drawn reactions from several political leaders. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi linked the incident to broader issues of caste discrimination and institutional bias. He stated that the officer’s suicide reflects the deep social poison of caste-based humiliation and oppression, warning about the conditions faced by ordinary Dalit citizens in similar situations. The ruling BJP has, however, strongly refuted these claims.

Y Puran Kumar’s death has raised questions about the mental health and workplace pressures faced by IPS officers, highlighting the need for better support systems within the police force. Paswan’s intervention reflects growing public demand for accountability and justice in sensitive cases involving high-ranking officials.

The Haryana government has not yet released a detailed statement on the investigation, but political leaders and civil society are closely watching for updates. Citizens expect the probe to be thorough, impartial, and transparent, ensuring that justice is served without delay.

This case has reignited debates about caste, workplace harassment, and institutional support in India, putting the spotlight on the pressures faced by law enforcement officers while performing their duties. A fair investigation is widely seen as essential to restore public confidence.
