Electric light commercial vehicles (e-CVs) are growing fast in India this year. From January to July 2025, a total of 7,054 electric small and light commercial vehicles were sold, which is 10% more than the same period last year. These vehicles are mainly used for transporting goods within and between cities, and they help reduce pollution because they run on electricity.

Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka are the top three states leading these sales. Together, they make up 43% of all electric small and light commercial vehicle sales in the first seven months of 2025. Maharashtra sold 813 vehicles, Tamil Nadu 725, and Karnataka 403. These states are driving the growth of electric vehicles, helping India move towards cleaner transport.

The light goods carrier segment, which includes small commercial vehicles (SCVs) and light commercial vehicles (LCVs), is the biggest part of this market. It accounts for 62% of all electric commercial vehicle sales this year. From January to July, 4,403 of these light goods carriers were sold, which is 15% more than last year.

Sales have been strong recently, with over 1,000 electric commercial vehicles sold each month from May to July 2025. July alone saw 1,248 units sold, the second-highest monthly sales after March 2024.

Other states are also showing changes. Delhi holds the fourth spot with 382 sales but saw a small decrease of 1% compared to last year. Uttar Pradesh saw a sharp decline of 48%, with only 299 vehicles sold. On the other hand, Rajasthan, Kerala, Odisha, and Haryana showed big growth in sales, with Haryana’s sales increasing by 264%.

In the market, Tata Motors is still a leader but its share dropped to 29% from 62% last year. Meanwhile, Mahindra’s share grew significantly to 18% from 7%.

Overall, the electric commercial vehicle market in India is growing quickly, driven by cleaner, eco-friendly transport options and strong demand in key states. This trend is expected to continue, setting new records for electric vehicle sales in India.
