Oppo Talks Hasselblad Deal, Camera Kits & AI-Free Shots

Oppo is doubling down on smartphone photography, and a big part of that is thanks to its ongoing partnership with legendary camera maker Hasselblad. While this collaboration is currently exclusive to the brand’s flagship Find X series, it’s shaping the future of what we can expect from mobile photography.

The recently launched Find X8 Ultra showcases the best of this partnership. With upgraded telephoto lenses and a powerful True Chroma camera, the device captures more accurate and vibrant low-light photos. Oppo attributes this leap in quality to its refined software and hardware, aided in part by Hasselblad’s expertise.

At a recent Oppo event, Lu ChengHao, Photography Product Specialist at Oppo, highlighted the brand’s journey with the Find X series and its vision for photography. When asked whether the Hasselblad partnership would trickle down to mid-range Reno smartphones, he confirmed that it won’t — at least for now. The exclusive tech and branding remain reserved for the premium Find lineup. However, Oppo is investing in its own custom imaging algorithms, like precise tone-mapping, which could eventually improve the camera experience on more affordable phones.

As other smartphone giants like Xiaomi and Vivo release photography kits for their Ultra flagships, Oppo is reportedly “very actively” exploring similar accessories for the Find X series. While no specific product was announced, ChengHao explained that such kits must meet two goals: make photography simpler for everyday users, and enhance the experience for enthusiasts seeking a DSLR-like feel.

Oppo’s strategy seems focused on keeping its premium camera tech exclusive, while gradually spreading software benefits across its wider lineup. Meanwhile, the brand is navigating the balance between AI-powered photography and preserving natural, effortless shooting — a tricky path as AI becomes more dominant in smartphone cameras.

In short, Oppo is serious about redefining mobile photography, but its best tools are currently only for those who can afford its top-tier models. Whether camera kits or wider Hasselblad tech reach more users remains to be seen.
