The stock market saw mixed trends in the week ending July 18, 2025, with major movements driven by economic data, IPO activity, and new fund offers. While some stocks gained due to strong investor confidence, others faced selling pressure amid profit booking.
One of the most significant developments was the sharp drop in retail inflation, which fell to 2.10% in June, marking the lowest level in over six years. This decline, largely due to lower food and energy prices, has raised expectations that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) may consider an early interest rate cut. A rate cut could boost borrowing, spur demand in key sectors like housing, automobiles, and MSMEs, and increase overall liquidity in the financial system, which is seen as a positive for equity markets.
Another highlight of the week was the IPO of Anthem Biosciences, which received overwhelming demand. The biotech and CRDMO company’s IPO was oversubscribed nearly 64 times, with Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIBs) leading the subscriptions at 182 times, followed by High Net-Worth Individuals (42 times) and retail investors (5.6 times). The strong response reflects growing investor interest in India’s biotech sector. The IPO opened for bidding on July 14 and closed on July 16, with the allotment date on July 17 and listing set for July 21 on BSE and NSE.
The week also witnessed the launch of New Fund Offers (NFOs) by two asset management companies—Capitalmind AMC and Groww AMC. Capitalmind introduced its Flexi Cap Growth Direct Plan, which aims to invest across market capitalizations, while Groww AMC launched the BSE Power ETF Fund of Fund, focused on India’s expanding power and infrastructure space. These products are expected to attract investors looking for diversified and sector-focused opportunities.
While some stocks benefited from these positive developments, broader indices faced volatility due to global cues and profit-taking. Analysts believe the market outlook remains strong, supported by falling inflation and robust investor participation in primary markets.
