The Congress party will hold an important meeting on July 15 to plan its strategy for the upcoming Monsoon session of Parliament. The meeting will be chaired by Congress Parliamentary Party leader Sonia Gandhi at her residence on 10 Janpath in New Delhi.
Senior party leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge, the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, and Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, are expected to attend. Other attendees will include the party’s deputy leaders in both Houses, as well as chief whips and whips who help manage party activities in Parliament.
This meeting is part of the Congress party’s preparation for what could be a heated Parliament session. The Monsoon session is expected to see strong opposition attacks on several key issues. Among them are the Election Commission’s special voter revision drive in Bihar and the controversial “Operation Sindoor,” which the opposition has raised serious concerns about.
Sources said that the party aims to be united and well-prepared to question the government on these and other matters. Congress leaders are expected to finalise a detailed action plan to raise these issues effectively in Parliament.
The Congress leadership wants to ensure that their MPs speak in one voice and remain focused during the session. With the opposition looking to corner the government on various fronts, coordination between all opposition parties will also be discussed.
Meanwhile, the government has denied recent statements made by former US President Donald Trump about mediation between India and Pakistan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had reportedly told Trump last month in a phone call that India has never accepted mediation and will not do so in the future.
The Congress party is expected to discuss such foreign policy matters too, especially when they impact India’s position globally.
The Monsoon session of Parliament is set to begin soon, and the Congress wants to be ready. The July 15 meeting will play a key role in setting the tone for the party’s participation.
