Big Step for ‘Make in India’ Rail Plans
TATA AutoComp Systems and Czech-based Skoda Group have formed a joint venture to manufacture railway propulsion systems and electrical parts in India. This was announced on July 9, 2025. The aim is to locally produce key components like converters and drives for trains, metros, and light rail vehicles. The production will take place in India with a multi-million-euro investment.
This partnership marks TATA AutoComp’s entry into the railway components space. It already plays a big role in the electric vehicle (EV) components market. With this new move, it will support India’s growing transport sector and boost the country’s “Make in India” campaign.
Bringing Global Tech to Local Markets
Skoda Group brings over 165 years of public transport expertise. The company manufactures electric locomotives, trams, metro trains, and buses across Europe. Skoda’s experience and technology will combine with TATA AutoComp’s wide manufacturing presence in India.
TATA AutoComp Vice-Chairman Arvind Goel said this move will help the company offer world-class rail solutions in India. Skoda Group CEO Petr Novotný added that the joint venture shows a strong commitment to innovation and Indo-European partnership.
This joint effort will also support India’s Vande Bharat and other railway projects by meeting international safety, efficiency, and environmental standards. The signing ceremony in New Delhi was attended by top company officials and Czech Ambassador Eliška Žigová, showing strong diplomatic ties.
TATA AutoComp has 68 manufacturing units in India and 10 joint ventures with global firms. Skoda operates under PPF Group, which works in 25 countries across industries like telecom, biotech, and transport.
As India modernizes its rail system, this partnership will offer advanced and reliable electrical systems—helping improve public transport across cities and regions. The collaboration blends Indian strength in manufacturing with European technical excellence.
