India’s auto industry grew steadily in May 2025, says the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). Total vehicle production rose to 25.82 lakh units, up from 24.55 lakh units in May 2024. That’s a 5.2% increase.

Sedan Sales Fall
Mid-size and executive sedans like Honda City and Skoda Slavia saw fewer buyers. Sales dropped from 17,836 to 13,672 units.
SUVs Continue to Lead
SUVs were the stars. Small SUVs like Brezza and Venue sold over 86,000 units. Mid-size SUVs like Creta and Seltos sold 59,307 units. Big SUVs like XUV700 and Scorpio also did well with 38,653 units sold.
Two-Wheelers See Small Rise
Two-wheeler sales rose to 16.56 lakh units from 16.20 lakh units. Scooters like Activa and Jupiter led in their segment. Motorbikes such as Hero Splendor and Royal Enfield also did well.
Electric Two-Wheelers Boom
Sales of electric bikes more than doubled to 78,322 units from 40,935. Popular models include the TVS iQube and Ather 450.
Three-Wheelers See Slight Drop
Three-wheeler sales went down slightly to 53,942 units from 55,763. However, electric rickshaws are gaining attention in cities.
Exports and Production Up
Exports rose sharply to 4.79 lakh units. Total production for April-May 2025 touched 49.01 lakh units, showing strong demand both in India and abroad.
