At the Spring/Summer 2026 Paris Fashion Week, Louis Vuitton (LV) made headlines for celebrating India in a grand and respectful way. The brand’s creative director, Pharrell Williams, worked with Indian architect Bijoy Jain to design a unique runway inspired by the Indian game Snakes and Ladders. The show took place at the famous Place Georges Pompidou in Paris and featured several Indian models.
The fashion collection was filled with Indian influence. From bejewelled trunks, gem-covered jackets, and luxury bags, to traditional Indian chappals (slippers), the runway sparkled with Indian style. The show also revisited LV’s 2007 India-inspired collection from the movie The Darjeeling Limited, using tropical animal prints on sneakers, jackets, and bags.
Pharrell shared that he had travelled to Delhi, Mumbai, and Jodhpur to draw inspiration from India’s culture, especially its colours. He explained that shades like turmeric yellow, cinnamon brown, and coffee-indigo denim were directly inspired by his trip. He believes in giving proper respect to cultures that inspire him and using storytelling to explain his ideas clearly.
The show’s music added to the Indian theme. Pharrell teamed up with A.R. Rahman to create a special track called Yaara Punjabi, which played during the event. Celebrities like Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Ishaan Khatter, and Nora Fatehi were spotted enjoying the performance.
The event also sparked conversations about how global brands often use Indian culture without giving credit. For example, Prada faced backlash for selling Kolhapuri chappals, a traditional Indian shoe, without mentioning their origin. In contrast, Louis Vuitton openly credited Indian artisans and culture, which many appreciated.
With Indian luxury buyers becoming more aware and vocal, global fashion houses are now expected to be more respectful and honest. LV’s show stood out not just for its beauty, but for its genuine celebration of Indian culture — setting a strong example for others in the fashion world.
