Bollywood star Suniel Shetty, cricketer KL Rahul, and actor Ahan Shetty are investing in Exelmoto, a new electric mobility startup founded by Akshai Varde. The company is launching stylish pedal-assist electric bikes—E1X Sky and E2R Rosso—designed like motorcycles but priced like premium cycles, under ₹42,000.
These e-bikes come with a removable lithium battery, fat tyres, and offer a 40-60 km range per charge. They don’t require registration or a driving licence. Pre-orders open on June 28 with 999 units available for ₹499 as a booking fee.
Unlike popular e-scooters, Exelmoto is targeting a new segment—hybrid bikes that combine fitness and fun with sustainability and affordability. This style of e-bike is common in Europe but still new in India. The startup aims to attract young, urban riders, students, gig workers, and families looking for a cool and eco-friendly ride.
Suniel Shetty called Exelmoto a “proud Indian product.” KL Rahul praised its smart design and clean energy, while Ahan Shetty said it reflects a modern identity—“cool and conscious.”
However, challenges remain. Many people still don’t understand pedal-assist bikes. Also, the market is full of EV brands. Success will depend on building awareness, offering test rides, and having good after-sales service. Exelmoto plans to expand across major cities soon.
Founder Akshai Varde says this is not just a trendy brand—it’s a long-term EV company aiming to change how India rides.
