Cabinet Clears ₹6,969 Cr UP Highway, Boosts Growth Plan

Cabinet Approves Highway, Industry and Power Projects

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet has approved a major infrastructure project worth ₹6,969 crore to build a four-lane access-controlled highway between Barabanki and Bahraich. The new highway is expected to improve road connectivity, reduce travel time, and support economic growth in the region.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the decision is part of the government’s larger plan to strengthen infrastructure and boost development. The highway will also help in smoother transport of goods and passengers, benefiting local businesses and residents.

Along with the highway project, the Cabinet has also approved a large industrial development scheme worth ₹33,660 crore. This plan focuses on setting up “plug-and-play” industrial estates across the country. These estates will have ready infrastructure, making it easier for companies to start operations quickly without delays.

The government believes that this move will attract more investment, create jobs, and support manufacturing growth. It is also expected to improve India’s position as a global manufacturing hub.

In addition, the Cabinet has approved a new Small Hydro Power (SHP) Development Scheme. This scheme will run from FY 2026-27 to FY 2030-31 and aims to promote clean and renewable energy. According to Vaishnaw, the decision has been taken keeping environmental protection in mind.

The hydro power scheme will encourage the development of small-scale power projects, especially in rural and hilly areas. It will help generate clean electricity while reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

Overall, these decisions show the government’s focus on infrastructure, industry, and sustainable energy to drive long-term growth.
