Bommai Slams Congress, Calls Karnataka ‘Undeclared Emergency’

Former Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has strongly criticised the ruling Congress government, calling the current situation in the state an “undeclared emergency.” Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of BJP’s Haveri district president, he accused the government of suppressing protests by farmers, citizens, and the opposition.

Bommai claimed that under the Congress rule, democracy has been destroyed, and the government is full of corruption and failures. He said that when BJP was in power, they took many pro-people steps, including support for farmers, better hostel facilities for poor children, and increased SC/ST reservations — all of which, he says, Congress has rolled back.

He alleged that police stations have turned into extortion centres, and drugs are being sold near schools and colleges, putting children’s futures at risk. He also spoke about a gang rape case in Hangal, claiming political pressure was used to protect the accused.

Bommai pointed out that many key projects in Haveri district — like medical and engineering colleges, irrigation schemes, and a mega dairy — were started under BJP. Now, he said, Congress leaders are inaugurating BJP’s work and claiming credit.

He also accused the government of raising liquor prices, hurting the working class, and of overcharging for electric meters, collecting bribes from the public. He said the government owes ₹750 crore in milk incentives and is recovering money by raising milk prices and stamp paper charges.

Bommai said even Congress MLAs are unhappy, with some talking about resigning. He warned that if misgovernance continues, Karnataka will face financial collapse and urged BJP workers to fight to save the state.
