The BJP has strongly criticised the INDIA bloc for what it calls “vote bank politics” under the cover of the Constitution. On Monday, BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi said the opposition is misusing the Constitution for political gains.
His remarks came after RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav said at a rally that if the opposition alliance wins the upcoming Bihar election, they will “throw the amended Waqf Act into the dustbin.”
Trivedi said such statements show disrespect for the Constitution. He reminded that the Waqf Act was passed by Parliament and is currently being reviewed by the Supreme Court.
He accused the RJD-Congress-Left alliance in Bihar of hiding behind socialism while practicing religious appeasement. “They are trying to change the Constitution into something like Sharia law, but the BJP will never allow this,” Trivedi said.
He added that the INDIA bloc was trying to win the support of one religious group by opposing the Waqf Act. According to him, this is not real socialism but “namazwaad”, which he defined as selective appeasement.
Tejashwi Yadav made his comments during a ‘Save Waqf, Save Constitution’ rally in Patna. He had also claimed that the current NDA government in Bihar is losing support.
Trivedi didn’t stop there. He also said that states ruled by opposition parties—like Telangana, Karnataka, and West Bengal—are giving reservation benefits to Muslims that were originally meant for Hindu OBCs, SCs, and STs. “Even Islamic countries like Saudi Arabia and Pakistan don’t go this far with Sharia law,” he added.
The BJP leader also claimed that Waqf properties are being handed over to a few powerful religious leaders, instead of being used to help the entire community.
He said the BJP-led NDA is fully committed to protecting the Constitution created by BR Ambedkar and will not allow anyone to change its core values. “We stand for equality, not vote bank politics,” Trivedi concluded.
