SpaceX successfully launched 26 additional Starlink satellites on June 12, further expanding its global broadband network.
The launch took place on Thursday night at 9:54 p.m. EDT (6:54 p.m. PDT or 0154 GMT on June 13) from Launch Complex 4 East (SLC-4E) at California’s Vandenberg Space Force Base. The satellites are expected to be deployed into orbit approximately one hour and one minute after liftoff via the rocket’s second stage.
With this mission, SpaceX has now deployed over 7,600 active Starlink satellites, reinforcing its position as a leader in satellite-based internet services.
SpaceX’s 15th Falcon 9 Reuse Powers 72nd Launch as Starlink Nears 7,600 Satellites
According to SpaceX’s official update for its 15-6 mission, the Falcon 9 rocket’s first-stage booster, B1081, completed its 15th flight—successfully landing on the droneship Of Course I Still Love You stationed in the Pacific Ocean off the southern California coast. This booster had previously flown 14 missions, and SpaceX continues to set benchmarks for orbital launch efficiency, with its current reusability record standing at 28 flights for a single Falcon 9 booster.
Thursday’s mission marked the 72nd Falcon 9 launch of the year, with 53 of those dedicated to expanding the Starlink satellite network. Designed to deliver high-speed internet globally, Starlink has begun offering direct-to-cell services, allowing for text messaging and limited data access on supported smartphones and networks.
Elon Musk’s SpaceX is steadily growing the Starlink constellation to improve redundancy and reach, especially in underserved or remote regions. With over 7,600 satellites currently in orbit, the network enables real-time internet access via compact satellite dishes and mobile devices across dozens of countries.
Alongside expanding internet access, Starlink is paving the way for future applications such as in-flight Wi-Fi and emergency communication systems. With many more launches planned, Starlink is rapidly transforming the landscape of global connectivity.
