Google has started rolling out its AI assistant Gemini for users of Google Chrome in several new regions, including India, Canada and New Zealand. The update allows people to use Gemini directly inside the Chrome browser through a sidebar on desktop computers.
With this new feature, users can ask questions about the content on their screen while browsing. Gemini can read the webpage and quickly provide explanations, summaries or additional information. This helps users understand complex topics faster without leaving the page they are viewing.
Google first launched Gemini integration in Chrome in the United States in September last year through a floating window. Earlier in 2026, the company introduced a new sidebar design to make the AI assistant easier to use. Now the feature is expanding to more countries.
Once the update reaches users, they will see an “Ask Gemini” icon in the Chrome tab bar. By clicking this icon, users can open the sidebar and ask the AI assistant questions about any webpage. Gemini can summarize articles, explain difficult concepts or even create quizzes to help users learn a topic better.
One important feature of the tool is its ability to work across multiple browser tabs. Users can ask Gemini to compare information from different tabs at the same time. This could be useful when comparing products while shopping online or checking travel tickets on different websites.
Gemini can also connect with several Google services such as Gmail, Google Drive, Google Maps and YouTube. For example, users can ask the assistant to write an email, summarize a YouTube video or check their daily schedule.
The update also supports many Indian languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu and Tamil.
Google has also added image editing tools like Nano Banana 2. This allows users to upload photos and see how objects, such as furniture, might look in their homes.
