Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday welcomed Nitin Nabin as the Bharatiya Janata Party’s youngest-ever national president, describing himself as a “party worker” and jokingly calling the new chief his “boss.” Speaking at the Sangathan Parv event at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, Modi underlined the party’s worker-centric culture and internal democracy.
“Being Prime Minister is secondary. My greatest pride is that I am a BJP worker,” Modi said, adding that party organisation and discipline had helped the BJP grow into the world’s largest political party during its 11 years in power. He described Nabin as a “millennial leader” who has witnessed the journey from radio to artificial intelligence, and urged him to strengthen the party’s organisational base and coordination with NDA allies ahead of key Assembly elections.
Modi noted that 2026 marks 75 years of the Jana Sangh, the BJP’s ideological precursor, and said Nabin’s role would involve managing the party’s vast organisation while maintaining unity within the NDA. Senior leaders, including chief ministers and top ministers, were present at the ceremony.
In his first address as BJP president, Nabin said politics was not about personal gain but sacrifice and responsibility. “Politics is not bhog, it is tyag. It is not a position, but a responsibility,” he said. Comparing political life to an endurance sport, he added, “Politics is not a 100-metre race. It is a marathon that tests stamina, not speed.”
Urging young people to actively participate in politics, Nabin assured party workers that dedication would be recognised. He reaffirmed the BJP’s guiding principle of “Nation First, Party Next, Self Last” and pledged to strengthen booth-level structures, expand the party’s reach and ensure unity within the NDA.
Hailing from Bihar, Nabin assumed office unopposed, ending J P Nadda’s extended tenure and restoring the party’s “one person, one post” norm, as the BJP prepares for major electoral battles ahead.
