Shinyakozuka Turns Fashion Into Living Storybooks

The famous Pitti Uomo fashion fair is being held in Florence, Italy, from January 13 to 16. Designers and buyers from around the world gather there every year. This time, the Japanese brand Shinyakozuka will present a special runway show on January 14, sharing the spotlight with other well-known labels.

Shinyakozuka is known for creating clothes that feel like “wearable picture books.” Instead of telling stories through words or music, the brand uses fashion to bring memories and emotions to life. Its designs often remind people of childhood dreams, fantasy stories, and illustrated books like The Little Prince.

The brand’s concept is called “picturesque scenery.” Designer Shinya Kozuka turns vague feelings, memories, and imagined landscapes into clothing. He does this through loose shapes, soft textures, and oversized silhouettes. The clothes look dreamy but also feel calm and thoughtful.

Shinya Kozuka graduated from Central Saint Martins in London in 2013 and launched Shinyakozuka in 2015. His collections are inspired by landscapes, his life in London, and his own drawings. He does not start with a strong message. Instead, he imagines a scene and thinks, “What kind of clothes would exist in this place?”

Each collection tells a quiet story. The autumn/winter 2024 collection, made for the brand’s 10th anniversary, was based on a picture book Kozuka created as a student. The clothes slowly moved from black-and-white tones to bright colours. Another collection followed the story of a penguin dreaming of flying.

Shinyakozuka is also known for its long-running collaboration with Dickies. Classic workwear jackets and trousers are redesigned in oversized, artistic shapes.

At Pitti Uomo, the brand is part of the “Future Maschile” section, which highlights innovative menswear. With its fantasy-inspired style, Shinyakozuka is expected to stand out and capture attention at the event.
