JK Tyre & Industries Ltd has completed the merger of its subsidiary, Cavendish Industries Ltd, with the parent company. This move comes nearly ten years after JK Tyre acquired Cavendish from Kesoram Industries in 2016. The merger brings all operations under one company and is expected to improve efficiency and long-term growth.
Cavendish Industries runs manufacturing plants that produce truck and bus radial tyres, truck and bus bias tyres, and tyres for two- and three-wheelers. When JK Tyre first took over Cavendish, the plants were running at only about 30 per cent of their capacity. This meant production was low and costs were high.
After the acquisition, JK Tyre began a detailed restructuring process. The company provided strong managerial support, better financial planning, and technical upgrades. These steps helped improve plant performance and overall efficiency. Over time, capacity utilisation at Cavendish plants rose sharply and has now reached around 95 per cent.
One major improvement was made at the Laksar facility, where capacity was expanded. This allowed Cavendish to add more to JK Tyre’s total production volumes. With better use of machines and manpower, the subsidiary became much stronger and more productive.
The merger is expected to create several benefits for JK Tyre. These include lower costs due to economies of scale, a wider and more diverse product range, and better market reach through a single distribution network. Customers may also benefit from smoother supply and improved service.
JK Tyre has called the Cavendish merger its third major turnaround. Earlier, the company successfully restructured Vikrant Tyres in the late 1990s and JK Tornel in Mexico in 2008. Over the years, JK Tyre has also set up several new manufacturing plants to expand capacity.
JK Tyre & Industries Ltd is the flagship company of the JK Organisation. It is among the world’s top 20 tyre manufacturers. The company operates 11 manufacturing facilities worldwide, including nine in India and two in Mexico. Its annual production capacity is over 35 million tyres, and it exports products to more than 100 countries.
