Maruti Suzuki India has achieved a major milestone with its e VITARA electric SUV, earning a five-star safety rating from Bharat NCAP. This marks the fourth consecutive five-star rating for the company under India’s national vehicle assessment program and makes the e VITARA the country’s first five-star rated electric SUV.
The certification was presented by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, who praised Maruti Suzuki for its commitment to safety. All variants of the e VITARA come standard with seven airbags, including a driver’s knee airbag, highlighting the company’s focus on protecting passengers.
The e VITARA joins Maruti Suzuki’s other five-star rated vehicles, including the All-New Dzire, VICTORIS, and INVICTO. The SUV underwent the Bharat NCAP assessment voluntarily, showing the company’s dedication to high safety standards for Indian vehicles.
Built on the new HEARTECT-e platform designed specifically for electric vehicles, the e VITARA features a strong body structure using over 60% ultra-high tensile and high-tensile steel. Advanced battery protection is included through an energy-absorbing mounting system. The SUV is engineered to withstand extreme temperatures, from minus 30 degrees Celsius to 60 degrees Celsius, making it suitable for varied conditions across India and abroad.
The e VITARA is packed with safety and driver-assistance features. It includes Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) such as automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and blind spot monitoring. Additional safety systems include Electronic Stability Program, hill hold control, anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution, and multi-collision braking.
All models offer a 360-degree surround view camera, front and rear parking sensors, and emergency call functionality with SOS. The SUV comes with two battery options, 49 kWh and 61 kWh, delivering strong performance and long range for everyday use.
The Bharat NCAP program tests vehicles for both adult and child occupant protection. The e VITARA achieved top ratings in all categories, proving its safety in different crash scenarios and protecting passengers of all ages.
With this achievement, Maruti Suzuki strengthens its position in the electric vehicle market while offering Indian buyers a safe, reliable, and advanced electric SUV.
