OpenAI’s Sora App Coming to Android Soon With New Social Tools

OpenAI’s Sora App Now on Android: Create AI Videos Easily

Sora Expands Beyond iOS
OpenAI is finally bringing its popular Sora app to Android devices. The artificial intelligence (AI) company confirmed that the Android version is “coming soon,” giving more users a chance to try out its unique video-generation features. Since its launch on iOS, Sora has become a viral sensation, allowing users to create AI-generated videos of themselves or others and share them on a global feed. The app also provides access to OpenAI’s Sora 2 model, even for users who don’t have a ChatGPT subscription.

According to Bill Peebles, Head of Sora at OpenAI, the Android release could happen in the next few weeks. However, there’s a chance that the app will continue to be invite-only, requiring an access code to join. On iOS, Sora gained over one million downloads in just five days, despite being available only in North America and limited to invited users.

Interestingly, Android Authority spotted Sora’s listing on the Google Play Store, where users in some countries can now pre-register. However, the listing isn’t visible in India yet, suggesting that the Android version may initially be restricted to North America, just like the iOS rollout.

New Features and Social Experience
Along with the Android expansion, OpenAI is adding new features to make the Sora app even more fun and interactive. The popular Cameo feature, which lets users include videos of others (with consent), is being upgraded. Soon, users will also be able to cameo pets, objects, or AI-generated characters, giving them more creative freedom.

Sora is also introducing its first video editing tool, called a stitching tool, that allows users to combine multiple short clips into a longer video. OpenAI plans to improve the app’s social experience as well. Currently, users only have one global feed to share videos, but the company is working on adding smaller community channels for groups like universities, companies, and sports clubs.

With these updates and its Android debut, Sora is set to become one of the most engaging AI-powered social apps of 2025.
