Sarah Jessica Parker, best known for her role as Carrie Bradshaw, has always been celebrated for her bold fashion choices. But one accessory from season 3 of And Just Like That recently became the internet’s favorite talking point — a giant bonnet-style gingham hat.
The oversized hat first appeared in an episode that aired in May 2025. Since then, it has gone viral, with many comparing the look to the cartoon character Strawberry Shortcake. Fans and fashion watchers had endless memes and debates about whether it was brilliant or bizarre.
Parker, 60, finally addressed the hat during a conversation with writer Evan Ross Katz at an event in Amagansett, New York. She admitted that she was the one who pushed to include the unusual piece in the show.
“I personally love hats on Carrie,” Parker said. “The minute I saw that hat, I thought, ‘How do I get that on my head? How do we convince Michael Patrick [King, the showrunner] it’s necessary?’”
The actress explained that she noticed the hat during a fitting session. The room was filled with “racks and racks of clothes, miles of shoes, and endless accessories.” Among them, the floppy gingham hat immediately stood out.
For Parker, what made the hat appealing was its unusual design. “It was massive and shapeless,” she explained. “And that’s exactly what made it so charming.” She added that linen is rarely used for hats because it resists structure, but in this case, the fabric made the accessory unique.
She loved it so much that she insisted it be included in Carrie’s wardrobe. “I loved it. I loved it,” she repeated.
As for the internet’s mixed reactions, Parker wasn’t too concerned. “This is an honest answer — I just thought it was going to be fun or interesting,” she said.
Whether loved or laughed at, the giant gingham hat has secured its place in And Just Like That’s fashion history — proving once again that Carrie Bradshaw’s style will always spark a conversation.
