103-Year-Old Man Says Vegan Life Helped Beat Cancer

Mike Fremont, a 103-year-old man from Ohio, USA, is living proof that simple, healthy habits can lead to a long and active life. At age 69, he was diagnosed with colon cancer and given just three months to live. But instead of having surgery, Mike chose a different path—he switched to a plant-based diet.

Inspired by The Cancer Prevention Diet by Michio Kushi, Mike began eating brown rice, steamed vegetables, beans, and seaweed. He avoided sugar, meat, dairy, fried foods, and even cooking oil. After two years on this strict diet, doctors removed the tumor but found no signs of cancer spread. Mike believes his diet saved his life.

Since 1994, Mike has followed this clean eating routine. Along with a healthy diet, he has stayed active. Until age 98, he ran 10 miles three times a week. Even today, he climbs 50 stairs daily, does pull-ups, and paddles a canoe.

Mike also sleeps 8–9 hours every night without an alarm. He avoids screens before bed and believes good sleep helps the body heal and stay strong. He lives naturally—drinking filtered water, growing his own food, and avoiding chemicals.

Doctors say diet alone cannot cure cancer, but a healthy lifestyle can help the body fight illness. Mike’s story shows how good habits like clean eating, daily movement, restful sleep, and being close to nature can support a long and healthy life.

His message is clear: Simple living can lead to lasting health.
